Reasons we will be in solitary confinement watching season two of ‘Orange is the New Black’

The day is almost here! Soon, you will be joining the female inmates of “Orange is the New Black” in prison. You’ll just hopefully have better food and more comfortable living arrangements as you binge-watch the adventures of Piper and the gang. Here is why you will be in solitary confinement starting Friday, June 6.

1. Will Piper go crazy?

a_560x375

The first season ended with Piper (Taylor Schilling) at her breaking point as she beat Jesus-crazy Pennsatucky (Taryn Manning) to a pulp. It should be entertaining to see just how much prison has changed her and will continue to change her. We know Pennsatucky isn’t dead since it has been confirmed that Manning was promoted to series regular status but we still don’t know how drastically Piper will change from this experience.

2. Where is Alex?

Laura Prepon’s character will be noticeably absent this season with her appearing in only four episodes. While this was done because of a scheduling conflict with Prepon’s schedule, the way the writers handle it should be fun to see. TV Guide reports that out of the first six episodes, Prepon only appears in the premiere but her “actions in it will have some hoping she never returns.” Gulp. How will Palex shippers handle this!?

3. Red “gets a little spanky.”

We still remember when Red (Kate Mulgrew) starved Piper out at the beginning of the first season. Then, there was her ongoing battles with Pornstache (Pablo Schreiber) but now there is a new rivalry in Litchfield with Vee (Lorraine Toussaint). “[Red and Vee] certainly play in the sandbox well, and sometimes not so well, and sometimes they get a little spanky, and sometimes they have to have a little time-out. You know — kids!” Toussaint told Yahoo TV. Red’s rivalries could make a spinoff series on their own.

4. The Pornstache/Daya/Bennett Love Triangle.

Daya’s (Dascha Polanco) affair with Bennett (Matt McGorry) left her pregnant and led her to sleeping with the sleazy Pornstache to explain her pregnancy and prevent Bennett from getting fired. Looks like Pornstache will be back trying to win over Daya, who he is desperately in love with. Could Pornstache redeem himself with his love? We sure hope so because…

5. Your secret crush on Pornstache could be validated.

Come on. You know you had a bit of a crush on him and people will no longer be able to judge you. Until then, check out this post from Buzzfeed about Pornstache’s real life, perfect self to make you feel more validated about your naughty crush.

6. Matt McGorry as Mendez.

His character should go through a lot of interesting…okay, this is just an excuse to talk about his “Magic Mike 2” audition from CollegeHumor. His awkwardness is just so adorable.

7. The backgrounds of our favorite characters.

The second season will feature the backgrounds of other inmates such as Crazy Eyes (Uzo Aduba) and Gloria (Selenis Leyva). In addition, Piper’s childhood will be revealed in the premiere and may show that her bad behavior may not have been a direct result of her relationship with Alex.

8. Binge-watching may alter the storylines.

After coming off of production of “Weeds,” creator/executive producer Jenji Kohan was only used to having a TV series where fans had to wait seven days between episodes. This ultimately affected the pacing of “Orange is the New Black.” Kohan told audiences at Paleyfest that now she understands that people watch multiple episodes in one sitting. While it could be damaging to leave out characters for multiple episodes in a weekly series, Kohan has altered production for the average binge-watcher. “The way they’re consuming it, you show up later that day, so it’s not like you’re missing,” Kohan told audiences at PaleyFest. It should be interesting to see just how different the luxury of binge-watching will affect the series.

9. Quotes from actors that will forever tease us until we actually watch season two!

The actors really know how to tease us and Jason Biggs, who plays Piper’s jilted lover, Larry, is no exception.

“It’s really hard to move on when he wanted to be her rock, ostensibly, from the beginning … and I don’t think he realized just how much was going to be required in order for him to survive on the outside, and keep his own head above water,” Biggs told reporters. “Season two, he makes some more decisions that will continue to affect their relationship in a very interesting way.”

10. This trailer is already exposing us to the awesomeness.

“Orange Is The New Black” season two premieres in it’s entirety on Netlix on Friday, June 6. The entire first season is currently available at your binge-watching pleasure.
